Art Destinations

Have you heard? Palestine has become one of the top "small town" destinations for art lovers to visit in Texas. Named by Texas Highways Magazine as a Top 40 Travel Destination, Palestine features historical sites, arts and cultural events, architectural gems, festivals, outdoor fun, and live music—all with loads of East Texas charm.

The Texas Theatre is the crown jewel of the downtown Palestine Main Street District and the finest venue for live entertainment in East Texas. This historic structure is a prime example of Spanish Colonial architecture and was designed as an atmospheric movie palace when it opened in 1930 but now serves as a community theatre hosting 5 shows each year. This and 1,800 additional historic sites in Palestine showcase unique architectural elements in buildings and homes throughout the community. That's a century and a half of architectural features - perfect for a scavenger hunt!

Speaking of stage performance, take your pick! From the Dogwood Jamboree, a Branson style country music show, to the Old Time Music & Dulcimer Festival, keeping your feet still will be the hardest part of attending any of these live performance musical events.

We all know that art can be fun, and in Palestine, take the opportunity to immerse yourself in a very interactive way. Participate in the many self-guided tours designed to allow you to engage with art in your own way. The Visit Palestine, Tx App features a series of trails all centered around public art available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Enjoy the oversize playful sculpture program featuring 13 large scale pieces by Jeffie Brewer, or find yourself stepping back to take in the murals.

Some of the most unique finds are within the shops lining downtown and Old Town Palestine. From fine art, to glass blowing, to art sculpted from automotive and industrial components, art lovers will find shelves and walls full of creativity and provide an opportunity to own a piece of the heart and soul of our community.

Established in 1846, Palestine continues its tradition of small-town hospitality. We invite you to visit historic Palestine and experience our attractions, exciting events, unique shopping, and local flavor. Home to the Texas State Railroad and the Texas Dogwood Trails Celebration, Palestine is graced with stately homes, gorgeous scenic drives and a Texas friendly welcome that offers a true Southern experience.
